A daily regimen to take care of your mouth is needed in order to remove all the plaque that could build up in your teeth. That plaque is the leading cause of tooth decay and diseases of the gum. Good oral hygiene can really be handy, not only when it comes preventing cavities from forming in your teeth but also in fighting bad breath. We go through all the trouble of dressing and looking good by bathing regularly and in using clean good clothes, so why not spend the same amount of trouble in making sure that our teeth and our mouths smell properly.

It is inevitable that oral health will be linked to your body’s overall condition so when your teeth, gums, and mouth stay healthy, your whole body will feel its effects. When you neglect oral hygiene you run the risk of bacteria and other microorganisms wreaking havoc inside your mouth, which will result in tooth decay and even bad breath. No only that there is also the chance of some serious illness resulting from its neglect. Infected gums can become an entrance for bacteria into the bloodstream. Brushing- Brushing your teeth is the most common of all oral hygiene practice, but many do not do it in the proper way. After eating, pieces of food can get left behind and stuck on the teeth surface and in between teeth. These pieces of food can become a breeding ground for the bacteria inside your mouth. It will then produce some acid that can weaken your teeth to a great degree. When that happens you become vulnerable to tooth decay. That is why dentists recommend that you brush at least twice a day or after every meal. When brushing you need to hold the brush at a 45 degree away from the gums.

Flossing- Unfortunately brushing would not be able to reach some the spots inside your mouth. There are some pieces of food there that will be left behind. This is the reason why flossing is really useful You just have to remember to use the right kind of dental floss and not just any string that comes in handy. Don’t use a single floss for all the sections of your mouth. Use at least 2 fresh lengths of floss for your upper teeth and 2 fresh lengths of floss for your lower teeth.

Mouthwash- The use of mouthwash can also help prevent the buildup of plaque.

Proper Diet- Staying away from foods that have high sugar and carbohydrate content will help in maintaining a good oral hygiene since these two are the leading cause of plaque buildup.
